A little Darth Vader doodle I did. Man, his helmet is rather hard to draw...so dumb. But after you get that figured out he's actually pretty fun to draw. Done in painter, used a reference pic-but then did my own pose. Overall I like the result.

I decided to do a face/hair study. I like to think this is Jean Grey or something like that :P I don't usually go very vibrant with colors but I tired to in this one. Took about 3 hours in Painter, used reference with some creative additions.

This is some wonderful fan art I concocted for one of my favorite movies! I had a lot of fun with this one. Especially the pose and the lighting. Also I decided to try half underwater, half above and I don't think it turned out half bad :P
I did another version of this about a year ago, and I think it looked like crap, so here's the retry :P...I worked the background a lot more this time around. I think I ended up using like every shade of green you can think of! ...anyway, I'm a lot happier with this version :)

I think it's all finished for now! I might go back in with some color correcting and effect tweaking, but I'm happy with how it turned out.
The sketchbook at the bottom of the tree is just creating this world from it's pages-metaphorical for what an artist does when he/she draws.

While on my break at the zoo I decided to draw some butterflies, taking reference from the pinned ones in the discovery pavilion. This is a simple pen and ink sketch, and I liked how it turned out :)

Here's a few Disney fan art pieces I did :) Again these are just little exercises to help me push style and facial expression, and body language-trying to piece together the whole dynamic of it all.

I'm so close to finishing!...kind of. Gotta figure out what to do with the border. Draw in their wings...I wanna change the bottom of winter's dress. Retouch the shading, then I'll be done!...but for now, here's some more progress :P
June 22, 2010
Time to work for the next few days so I won't have much time to work on this piece although I think I'm liking where it's going...got's more coloring and special effects such stuff to do yet :)

The original drawing I did last summer using pens and Prisma colored pencils. I liked the costume and the idea, so I decided to take it into the digital realm. This is the remake...colored strictly in photoshop, which was a stretch for me cuz I've been obsessed with painter as of late...I might toy with the background a bit more later, but for now I'll call it done.
I decided to try out a new shading style today...and I think I like it, I wanna try doing more like this, and slowly start adding some colors. Heck I even did the textured background all by myself
I'm a background fiend!...that or I really wanted to try a winter landscape...I don't know if you can see it, but the wandering wizard is sprinkling the land with powdered snow. Done completely in photoshop.
Story: The land has been dead for some time now...the season do not change...the water runs dry. But still there are those who remain to fix the broken land...the wandering wizard changes the seasons, bringing winter to the dead of fall.

My friends and I are planning on doing a collaborative graphic novel, and I think this is the character I really want to use. She was inspired by both some steampunk/final fantasy-esque influences. Her name is Raelynne and I do want to develop a creature sidekick type character that she ventures alongside with. Hopefully you’ll see more of her in the future.

A rare Zombie-phant...he just wants to be your friend! This one's name is Saggyphants, he's saggy...
Grumpy old war veteran elephant :P
The elephant sketch-off challenge. Go!
Vasilia...goddess of the wind...she is the cool autumn breeze, gentle weaving through the trees at night. Done with pastels.

I cannot take credit for this character for it belongs to my beautiful friend Cole. But I wanted to pay tribute to the ol chap and do some fan art. His version is much more shorter and cartoony :P Anyway, Flopsweat is a long time friend of Jack Gutowski's. They aid each other now and again fighting crime together, and also fighting themselves given the proper circumstances. With Flopsweat's mastery of sweat powered artillery and Curly Fry's deadly thunder punches, the two form a powerful alliance.
Theresa is Jack's love interest. She's a police officer dedicated to fighting crime. She's torn between following the rules and helping Jack stop crime by abusing her police responsibilities and leaking tips to Jack. She's a fairly good shot with a gun, and has a conservative but sharp personality. Their relationship is to remain in secret...for if exposed they might both be in trouble.
Arch nemesis to Curly Fry, the Conductor is a goliath of a man standing around 7 feet tall, and bigger upon electrical consumption. His body's molecular structure has been formatted to feed off electrical currents expanding his body's density and size. He can grow to heights of 23 feet tall, but any higher than that-things begin to go wrong. He's a powerful foe that causes Curly Fry to fight hand to hand, for using his electrical currents will only make Conductor stronger...or is that also the key to his defeat?

Here's the postcard I designed for my senior gallery exhibit coming up soon, as soon as I get a head count I'll be printing these bad boys and mailin' em out to everybody and their brother!..and yes Curly Fry was included in the design, he's quickly becoming one of my favorite characters I've created :P

Here's a concept sketch of what Jack Gutowski could look like as Curly Fry. He stands at 7 ft tall, but can expand to stand 9-10 ft tall, however he becomes more unstable and flimsy the more he stretches his stance. His signature move is to activate his electrical cords to send a static pulse coursing through is organic titanium coils, he then contracts his forearm coil, clenches his fist, locates his target and fires forth a statically charged impact punch that can reach a target more than 20 feet way with a devastating thunder punch. He can contract his leg coils to jump 500 ft in the air!
Still trying to flush out his bio, but for now we'll go with this. His name is Jack Gutowski. Alias: Curly Fry. Height 6' 3". Weight 210 lbs. His arms and legs are made of a compressed organic titanium coil that can expand and contract at his whim. He wears a helmet to protect his precious face....to be continued.

Sketch, Photoshop, Painter.
If I ever get the urge to do a graphic novel type story, I have these two characters I really want to incorporate into it. The little wood goblin in the tree is named Loofburrow. Aedalyn is the faerie. They're both very curious and wind up in trouble more often than not. And all of the other faeries think she's very odd for having befriended a wood goblin, but they could care less...for the forest is theirs to explore and protect.

Just a quick little character sketch...her name if Faye, and she isn't much for being told what to do, a rebel child. She lives with her foster mother and was barely 3 when her parents were killed. Since she has grown into a beautiful young adult, but has never lost her attitude...
...dreams from her childhood haunt her...a shadow lurks in her subconscious. It's form is a ominous bat like creature...and other times a man...

Program: Corel Painter/Photoshop CS4
I knew I wanted to do an underwater environment of some type...so naturally I wanted to draw a mermaid, but didn't want to go with a totally traditional look, so I decided to add some more fish qualities to her look with the fin along her back and forearms. Overall I was happy with how the lighting turned out.

Program: Painter/Photoshop CS4
This one took some experimenting, mainly because I haven't worked too much with fire or rock type things. So here's my attempt :P
I dunno if it reads too well but there's a little guy on top of the rock monster. He's controlling it...as well as raising up two more in the background. i tried to stay away from defining contour lines this time. It still needs some tweaking I think, but I think it's headed somewhere.

Program: Painter/Photoshop CS4
I did this illustration awhile ago, last year I think...anyway i colored it in photoshop before I was introduced to painter. To be honest I hated how the old one turned out, so i decided to try again but this time in painter. Let's just say I was very happy with how it turned out.
March 10, 2010
Hooray 20 minutes! I tried to go real fast....I still get bogged down with details though. The eventual goal is to be able to pick out the areas most important to the piece in order to nail the colors/mood/lighting. Practice practice practice.
March 9, 2010
I decided to name her Faylinn and him Klippe...They are brother and sister and fly freely among the forests leaves. Small guardians, they keep watch over the creatures and the plants...the sunlight speckles through the trees. They get a taste of it's warmth, but only a taste; for they turn to water if they stay in the light...Their curiosity draws them to the surface. To experience it...just to see what colors the sun paints the earth from above the treetops...
I might start a study on faces...doing a few drawing here and there just to get more comfortable with drawing them. Expressions are a good one I wanna learn better. We'll see how it goes.
March 4, 2010
This one is probably my favorite thus far...it took about an hour to do, which isn't too bad I suppose :P...could be faster. I really liked doing the colors in this one.
So I noticed tonight that our Hornbill character was just kind of a...well, bird-ish. Boring, stiff and had no personality. The design was cool, but there was nothing more to it. So here are a few sketches where I tried to have the Hornbill's personality show through a bit more. She very much contrasts Monkey. The Hornbill is an elegant high class lady of the tallest tree branches. She's a bit snooty, but always proper. Proud and confident her gift will win baby man's approval.
Here's a few quick character sketches for monkey in Jimi and I's senior project film. I personally love the pose and expression in the first pic. I hope to have much fun animating the crazy little monkey :P
Monkey is a quirky lax kind of character. Laid back and focused, but utterly spasmic when agitated.
